Heckel Jr. Named a GCAA All-America Scholar

NORMAN, Okla. - Team Captain for the 2023-24 seasons, John Heckel Jr., was recently named an All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America for his work on and off the course.Â
Heckel Jr. was a first-team All-Patriot League player for the Black Knights in 2023-24 and finished fifth overall at the Patriot League Championship. He also was key to Army's performance at the CIC Cup as the Black Knights defeated Navy and Air Force in the spring. Heckel Jr. helped Army capture the Star in the fall as well with a victory over Navy. He secured two points with wins in four-ball and singles.Â
The business management major has a 3.3 cumulative grade point average at West Point.Â
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior, or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA.
In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
