SPARKS, MD - Army West Point women's lacrosse rising sophomores Brigid Duffy & Allison Reilly have each been named to the USA Women's U20 Training Squad, as announced by head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller. The duo help comprise a total of 42 athletes to make the training squad, joining Noto Family Head Coach Michelle Tumolo who was named an assistant coach for the upcoming 2024 World U20 women's championship cycle.
The U20 training team will be back at USA Lacrosse for a training camp in August and will compete at the USA Lacrosse Fall Classic in October before the final roster is ultimately selected to represent the country at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women's U20 Championship in Hong Kong, China next summer.
"We had an incredible weekend at USA Lacrosse headquarters," Amonte Hiller said. "The amount of pure talent and passion for the sport made the weekend unforgettable. We're so excited for the next step on this journey to Hong Kong with this strong group of players."
Duffy was the Patriot League Rookie of the Year and an All-Patriot League first team selection after leading the conference in goals (50) and goals per game (3.13) through the regular season. She finished the campaign with 56 goals scored and 26 assists, making her Army's single-season points record holder with 82. Duffy burst onto the scene for the Black Knights in the midfield, winning the conference's Rookie of the Week honor on five occasions throughout the season, along with a Midfielder of the Week nod. In addition to her goal-scoring prowess, Duffy was all over the field for the Black Knights, also ranking in the top-ten in the league in ground balls with 35 and draw controls with 90. She also leads the Black Knights in caused turnovers with 19, and was instrumental in Army's clearing efforts throughout the season. With her 56 goals, she ranked first in the country in goals among freshmen. Duffy scored five times with two assists in its win at #19 Jacksonville before going on to pour in a career-best seven goals in Army's 17-15 win over Boston University. She went on to log at least three points in 15 of Army's 18 games this season, and most recently assisted on the game-winning goal in double-overtime to defeat Navy in the Patriot League semifinal. She was named to the Patriot League All-Tournament team after leading Army with eight points total in the tournament while logging a team-high four points in the Championship.
Reilly finished her plebe campaign as Army's fifth-leading points getter, tallying 27 goals and 17 assists while making 15 starts for the Black Knights. Reilly had multiple standout performances in her debut campaign, posting four points in her collegiate debut against New Hampshire before netting three goals at Holy Cross and four against Yale. Reilly etched her name into the Army lacrosse record books in the annual star match against Navy, setting single-game program records for goals with nine and points with 12. Her 12-point outburst helped Army take down the Mids by a score of 15-11. She followed up the performances with a six-point effort against Lafayette before scoring three more times against Navy in the Patriot League semifinal.
Formerly, a U19 event, World Lacrosse raised the age group to U20 after the 2019 championship in Peterborough, Ontario. The U.S won the event in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2019. Australia won the inaugural championship in 1995 and Canada won in 2015 with the U.S. finishing as the runner-up at those two events.
