Women's Rugby Places Second at Collegiate Rugby Championship 7s

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Army West Point women's rugby won its first three games at the Collegiate Rugby 7s Championship, before eventually falling in the championship contest against Brown.

Army began in the round of 16 with a matchup against Aquinas, taking down the Saints in dominating fashion with a 44-0 victory. Returning for the quarterfinals, Army remained unblemished with a 57-0 victory over Southern Nazarene to advance to the semifinals on Saturday.

Army matched up with Penn State in the semifinals, and got a pair of tries out of Julia Riekena to propel the Black Knights to victory. A try from Olivia Popp brought the final score to 17-5 against the Nittany Lions. Army matched up with NIRA-foe Brown in the championship game on Saturday afternoon. Army got out to an early lead, but eventually fell to the Bears by a score of 21-19 in the closing minute. Popp got on the scoresheet again with a try for the Black Knights, as Cecilia Ollis and Kaylee Cargile also logged tries.

Army will return for the USA Rugby National Chamoionships on May 5-7 from Houston, Texas.
