Women's Rugby Places Sixth at USA Rugby Collegiate 7s Championships

HOUSTON, TX - Army West Point women's rugby placed sixth at the USA Rugby Collegiate 7s Championship, achieving a 3-3 overall record at the tournament while falling in the plate final/fifth-place match.
Army was placed in pool A, matching up with CRAA Selects, Davenport and Life on day one. The Black Knights got out to a hot start, securing a 27-0 victory over the Selects, featuring tries from Alissa Eisenhart, Sydney Schaaf, Cecilia Ollis and Mckhaye O'Boyle.
Army returned to dominate Davenport by a score of 36-7 to get out to a 2-0 start in pool play. Julia Riekena and Grace Macune got on the board with their first tries of the tournament, while Schaaf knocked in three conversions to go along with a try.
Army went on to take on Life University in the final game of pool play between a pair of 2-0 squads. Life was able to secure the victory by a score of 38-12, with Kate Woenker and Schaaf providing the tries for the Black Knights. After finishing second in the pool, Army matched up with Dartmouth iun the championship quarterfinals to conclude day one. The Big Green secured a 22-0 victory to send Army into the plate semifinals on Sunday.
Army rebounded against Penn State on day two, posting a 12-5 victory featuring a try from captain Kaylee Cargile. Army adanced into the plate final/fifth-place matchup with AIC to close out the tournament. Despite a trio of tries and pair of conversions from Sydney Schaaf to account for all of the Black Knights scoring, AIC was able to see out an eventual 24-19 victory which gave Army a sixth-place overall finish at the tournament.
