Army Powers Past Siena in 13-1 Win

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Army West Point baseball team (16-12, 6-2 PL) dominated Siena College (4-25, 0-3 MAAC), defeating the Saints 13-1. Army's Braden Golinski went 3-for-4, having two runs, two RBIs, a double, a triple, and a stolen base.
Army's pitching stood out, striking out 13 batters.
How it Happened
The Black Knights attacked Siena starter Arnad Mulamekic (0-2) in the top of the first inning, with Derek Berg hitting a leadoff single to center field, putting a runner on base. With one out, Berg stole second, putting a runner in scoring position. After Ross Friedrick walked, Army had two runners on base. With two outs, Braden Golinski hit an RBI double down the left field line, sending Berg and Friedrick in to score, making it a 2-0 game. The Saints ended the inning with a pop-up.

Army starter Dom Trippi (W, 1-2) retired the side.
In the bottom of the third inning, Siena threatened Trippi. Willie Schwarick had a leadoff walk. Randall Hien hit a single to Trippi with one out, putting runners on first and second. The Saints loaded the bases after Aiden Stewart walked. Trippi ended the inning with two strikeouts.

Will Hart came in to pitch relief for Trippi.
In the bottom of the fourth, Hart had a 1-2-3 inning.
Pitching for both teams kept the score 3-0 until the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Chris Barr walked, putting a runner on base. Junior Derek Berg ripped an RBI triple to right center, sending Barr across the plate, giving Army a 3-0 lead.

The Black Knights made it a 4-0 game, after Kevin Dubrule hit a sacrifice fly, sending Berg in to score. Siena ended the inning with a fly out.
With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Steven Graver came in to pitch relief. Graver retired the side with a flyout and a groundout.
Noah Wieczorek came in to pitch relief for Mulamekic.
In the top of the sixth inning, the bats came alive for the Black Knights. Junior Braden Golinski hit a leadoff triple, putting a runner in scoring position.

With one out, freshman Carter Hewitt ripped an RBI single to left field, sending Golinski across the plate, and giving the Black Knights a 5-0 lead. William Parker hit a single through the left side, putting runners on first and second. Army extended its lead to 6-0 after Chris Barr ripped a single through the right side, sending Parker to second and Hewitt in to score. Berg hit a sacrifice fly to left field, sending Parker across the plate, and giving the Black Knights a 7-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Siena threatened the Black Knights. Danny Barbero ripped a single to center field with one out, putting a runner on first. With two outs in the inning, Vincenzo Castronovo hit a single up the middle, advancing Berbero to second, and putting a runner in scoring position. Army cleared the side after Matt Livingston hit into a fielder's choice and Dubrule tagged Castronovo out at second.
In the top of the seventh, Alistair Morin came in to relief for the Saints.
With one out, Golinski walked, putting a runner on first. Freshman Ethan Ellis reached first on an error by Barbero, putting Golinski in scoring position. Runners advanced another base after a wild pitch. Morin loaded the bases after Carter Hewitt walked. Siena retired the side with a strikeout and a fly-out.
Sebastian Bentz came in to pitch relief for Morin.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Black Knights threatened to score against Bentz. With one out, Kevin Dubrule hit a single, putting a runner on at first. Dubrule reached second on a wild pitch, putting a runner in scoring position. After a groundout, Dubrule advanced to third. Siena cleared the side with a strikeout.
Sean Dennehy came in to pitch relief for Steven Graver. Dennehy retired the side with a flyout and two strikeouts.
In the top of the ninth inning Army attacked relief pitcher Joey Laurer. Braden Golinski hit a leadoff single, putting a runner on first. Army put a runner in scoring position after Golinski advanced to second off a wild pitch. Ellis hit a single to third base, putting runners on the corners. With one out, Parker hit a sacrifice fly, sending Golinski in to score, giving the Black Knights an 8-0 lead. With two outs, the Black Knights made it a 9-0 game after Ellis scored on a passed ball. With the bases loaded, senior Ross Friedrick ripped a bases-clearing double, making it a 12-0 game.

Siena's Ramsey Collins came into the game to pitch relief for Laurer. Sam Ruta hit an RBI single to left center, sending Friedrick across the plate, giving Army a commanding 13-0 lead. The Saints cleared the side with a popup.
Joe Valchar came in to relief for Dennehy. With two outs, Siena got on the board after Nick Bergamotto hit a solo home run, making it a 13-1 game. Bryce Mordecki came in to pinch-hit for Schwarick. Mordecki hit a single through the right side, putting a runner on first. Valchar secured the win for the Black Knights after striking out Kobe Stenson.
