Baseball Splits Series with Bucknell, 4-2 in Patriot League Play

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point baseball team (13-12, 4-2 PL) defeated the Bucknell Bison (13-12, 7-3, PL) 7-0 in Game 1 of Sunday afternoon's doubleheader. Army's Kevin Dubrule went 3-4, having a run, three RBIs, a double, and a home run. Starter Tanner Gresham pitched a complete game, striking out four, walking one, and had three hits.
In Game 2, the Black Knights fell to the Bison 11-7. Coleson Titus went 3-4, having two runs, an RBI, and a home run.
How it Happened
GAME 1 (Army Wins 7-0, 7 innings)
After two scoreless innings, the bats came alive for the Black Knights in the bottom of the third inning. Bret Copeland hit a leadoff single, putting a runner on base. Copeland advanced to second after Addison Ainsworth reached first on a throwing error by Bucknell's Jake Wortman. Runners advanced to second and third off a wild pitch, putting two runners in scoring position. Junior Derek Berg ripped an RBI single through the left side, advancing Ainsworth to third and sending Copeland in to score, giving Army a 1-0 lead.
The Black Knights continued to attack Bucknell starter Chris DiFiore (L, 1-3). Kevin Dubrule blasted a 3-run home run to center field, making it a 4-0 game.

The Bison ended the inning with three flyouts.
In the top of the fourth, the Bison got out in order.
In the bottom of the fourth, the bats for the Black Knights came alive again. Coleson Titus hit a leadoff single, putting a runner on base. Bret Copeland extended Army's lead with an RBI double, making it a 5-0 game. Freshman Addison Ainsworth ripped a single through the right side, sending Copeland across the plate, and giving the Black Knights a 6-0 lead. With two outs, Dubrule hit a double down the right field line, Berg advancing to third. Bucknell ended the inning with a fly out.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Bison threatened Army starter Tanner Gresham (W, 2-1). With two outs, Chris Klein hit a double to left center, putting a runner in scoring position. Wortman reached first off an error advancing Klein to third. Gresham ended the inning with a groundout.
With two runners on first and second, Hadley Maxwell came in to pitch relief for DiFiore in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Coleson Titus flew out to center field, advancing Golinski to third. Ellis ripped an RBI double through the left side, sending Golinski in to score, making it a 7-0 game.
Bucknell threatened Gresham in the top of the sixth. Anthony Sherwin walked, putting a runner on base. Junior Jacob Corson hit a single to right field, advancing Sherwin to second, putting a runner in scoring position. Sherwin advanced to third, off of a double play. Gresham ended the inning with a strikeout.
Gresham retired the side in the bottom of the seventh with two flyouts and a groundout.
Game 2 (Bucknell wins 11-7)
The Bison attacked Army starter Matthew Ronnebaum (L, 2-2) early in the game. With one out in the top of the first, Jacob Corson hit a solo home run to center field, giving Bucknell an early 1-0 lead. Sean Keys walked, putting a runner on at first. Tyler Dunn extended the Bison's lead with a 2-run blast, giving Bucknell a 3-0 lead. The Black Knights ended the inning with a groundout and a flyout.
In the bottom of the first Army's bats came out swinging. Derek Berg hit a leadoff single, putting a runner on first. With one out, Ross Friedrick walked, advancing runners to first and second. With two outs, Braden Golinski hit an RBI single up the middle, advancing Friedrick to second and sending Berg in to score, making it a 3-1 game. The Bison ended the inning after tagging Coleson Titus out at first.
Army retired the side in the top of the second.
In the top of the second, the Black Knights threatened Bucknell starter Will Greer (W, 3-2). The Black Knights got within one run after freshman Ethan Ellis hit a solo home run to left center, making it a 3-2 game. With two outs, Berg ripped a single up the middle. Kevin Dubrule was hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second. The Bison retired the side with a fly out.
The bats came alive for the Bison in the top of the fourth. Grant Voytovich hit a leadoff single, putting a runner on base. Bucknell put a batter on first after reaching on an error, putting runners in scoring position. Voytovich scored on a groundout, giving Bucknell a 4-2 lead. The Bison extended their lead to 5-2 after Kender scored off a wild pitch. Army ended the inning with a groundout.
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, the Black Knights got within two runs after Kevin Dubrule hit an RBI single sending Copeland in to score, making it a 5-3 game. Bucknell retired the side with a groundout.
Army cleared the side in the top of the fifth.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, sophomore Coleson Titus hit a solo home run to center field, making it a 5-4 game. With one runner on base, the Bison ended the inning with a fly out.

Bucknell further extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning. Dunn hit a leadoff single, putting a runner on at first. Voytovich ripped a double down the right field line, advancing Dunn to third. Kender hit a double down the right field line, sending Voytovich and Dunn in to score, giving the Bison an 8-4 lead. Army retired the side with a flyout and a strikeout.
Bucknell's Connor Vucovich came in to pitch relief for Will Greer in the bottom of the sixth.
In the top of the seventh, Bryce Brownlee came in to relief for Matthew Ronnebaum.
With two outs, Dunn hit a single through the right side, putting a runner on at first. Voytovich extended the Bison's lead with a two-run home run to center field, making it a 10-4 game. Steven Graver came in to pitch relief for Brownlee. Army cleared the side with an out at first.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Black Knights threatened the Bison. With two outs, Coleson Titus hit a single to left center, putting a runner on first. Ellis ripped a single through the right side, advancing Titus to second, and putting a runner in scoring position. Theo Farynick came in to pitch relief in the bottom of the seventh. Bucknell cleared the side with a pop-up.
In the top of the ninth, Bucknell made it an 11-4 game after Sean Keys hit a solo home run to left center. The Black Knights retired the side with a groundout and Voytovich got tagged out at second.
Army began its comeback in the bottom of the ninth. Junior Sam Ruta ripped a leadoff single up the middle, putting a runner on at first. Farynick walked Golinski, putting runners on at first and second. Titus was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. With two outs, Addison Ainsworth was walked, advancing the runners on base, sending Ruta in to score, making it an 11-5 game. After Berg was hit by a pitch, runners advanced, sending Golinski across the plate, and cutting the deficit to five runs. Ryan Osinski (S, 3) came in to pitch relief. Oskinski walked Dubrule sending Titus in to score, making it an 11-7 game. Bucknell nixed Army's comeback with a strikeout.
