Sacchinelli & Ragazzini Start Weekend Strong for Women's Track & Field
April 15, 2023 | Women's Track and Field
PRINCETON, NJ - Army West Point women's track & field began the weekend at the Larry Ellis Invite hosted by Princeton University.
Nicole Sacchinelli led the Black Knights with a first-place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 47.68m. Alexah Zaczynski also landed in the top-five in the event with a 42.56m throw. Brooke Stratman was just behind Zaczynski in sixth-place with a 42.32m distance.
Kayley Ragazzini logged a 58.02m hammer throw for a new personal best which moved her into fourth-place on Army's all-time list. The mark was good for fifth-place at the meet. Aysia Salas followed with a 48.79m mark for 15th-place.
Joanna Halfhill tabbed a strong performance in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:34.74 for a sixth-place finish.
Zoe Eggleston was the lone Black Knight beginning the heptathlon at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell University. Eggleston sits in third-place after day one highlighted by third-place finises in the high jump with a 1.60m showing, the shot put with a 10.96m distance and the 200m with a time of 25.77.
Coach's Corner
"Once again our throwers led us today. Kayley Ragazzini did it again. She improved another 2 meters in the hammer throw and is now number 4 on the academy all-time list with her 58.02 meter throw today. I don't know where it will end with her in terms of performance but what we are seeing from her right now is not normal. Normal is improvement by centimeter increments. She has such a good head space when it comes to competition that I won't be surprised if she keeps adding meters to her throws. Nicole Sacchinelli took that javelin title today at Larry Ellis. I thought she was fantastic two weeks ago at Army Navy and then she came out today and threw 47.68 meters which is only a few inches off her lifetime best. I was impressed with how she competed today. The mark is great, but the consistency is what really impresses me. At Bucknell, we only had one competitor today on the women's side and it was Zoe Eggleston in the heptathlon. Zoe sits in third after day 1 with a point total that shatters her previous best day 1 total and sets her up for a huge personal best if she just has an average day tomorrow. She had a personal best in all four of the events on day 1.  She had a huge improvement in the hurdles, a 1cm best in the high jump, a strong shot put and the best 200 meters of her life. She stands to add 300 or 400 points onto her personal best from last year. She is in a great spot going into tomorrow." - Director of Track & Field Mike Smith
The Black Knights will return on Saturday with athletes competing at both meets.
