No. 15 Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 11 Loyola in First Patriot League Defeat

BALTIMORE, MD - No. 15 Army West Point women's lacrosse (12-2, 6-1 Patriot League) fell 19-5 at the hands of No. 11 Loyola Maryland (12-2, 6-0 Patriot League) on Saturday afternoon.
The contest was called final after a weather delay with 8:29 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Army struck first on the opening possession of the game, with Brigid Duffy finding Julia Franzoni with a feed in front as Franzoni put the Black Knights ahead 1-0. The Greyhounds answered less than a minute later with Georgia Latch finding the back of the net.
After Loyola took its first lead at 2-1, Kathleen Sullivan answered with an unassisted tally at the 9:19 mark to knot the score at two. Sullivan tabbed her second of the game minutes later, as the score was tied at three heading into the first media timeout of the game.
Loyola began to dominate the draw control soon after, winning the next four which led to four goals and a 7-3 lead after one quarter. The Greyhounds carried the momentum into the second frame, winning the first six draw controls before getting out to a commanding 13-3 lead with 9:36 to play in the half.
Allison Reilly scored the lone goal of the quarter for the Black Knights, picking up a ground ball off a free-position save. Loyola outshot Army 22-11 in the opening half and took a 15-4 lead into halftime.
The Greyhounds played the second half comfortably with the lead, scoring three times in the third quarter while shutting out Army as the Black Knights were unable to find a shot on target in the frame.
Julia Franzoni scored the fifth goal of the game for the Black Knights, before the game was paused and eventually called with 8:29 to play as Loyola collected a 19-5 victory to remain the lone undefeated team in the Patriot League.
