February 06, 2023 | Men's Basketball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Army West Point Men's Basketball freshman Ethan Roberts was named the Patriot League GEICO Rookie of the Week, announced today by the league.
In two games last week at Lehigh and Bucknell, Roberts averaged 20.0 points, shot 7-12 from three-point distance and grabbed seven rebounds.
Roberts did all he could in efforts to will the Black Knights to victory on Saturday at Bucknell, but his attempt came up just short. However, the freshman scored a career-high 32 points on 11-19 shooting from the field, shooting a lights out 6-8 from three-point. Roberts scored 21 of his 32 in the second half, including 12 by virtue of splashing four three-pointers in the game's final minute, trying to keep Army in the game.
He has scored in double figures in seven of his last eight games since Jan. 11 and is averaging 17.1 points during that stretch.
A native of Arlington Heights, Ill., Roberts is averaging 12.8 points, and is shooting .435% (50-115) from three-point range on the season, which ranks sixth best in the Patriot League.
It is Roberts first time this season winning Rookie of the Week honors. Teammate Coleton Benson has took home the honors twice so far this season.
