Black Knights Split, Fall at Home, Defeat Seton Hall on the Road

WEST POINT, N.Y. -The Army West Point women's tennis team fell at home to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 5-2 Friday afternoon. On the road, the Black Knights defeated the Seton Hall Pirates 4-1 Friday night.
How it Happened
The Scarlet Knights defeated the Black Knights to win the doubles point. In the first doubles spot, Elizabeth Gilbert and Cooper Jackson fell to Rutger's Mai Nguyen and Tara Chilton 6-3. Army's Julia Kelly and Jenna Sabile were bested by Arina Valitova and Jackeline Lopez 6-2 in the No. 2 spot, respectively. Army's Anna Loureiro and McKinnley Smith defeated Chloe Brown and Minchae Kim 6-5.
In the singles matches, Rutgers continued where they left off in the doubles matches. In the first position, Jackeline Lopez bested Elizabeth Gilbert, winning in two sets (6-2, 6-1). In the second singles match, Julia Kelly defeated Tara Chilton in three sets. Kelly won the first set (6-3). Chilton won the second set 6-1 forcing. Kelly won the third set with a final score of 7-5.
In the No. 3 spot, Jenna Sabile faced Mai Nguyen. Sabile won the first set 6-4 and won the second set 7-6. Army's Vennmukiil Mathivanan competed against Amira Badawi in the No. 4 position. Badawi defeated Mathivanan in two sets with a final score of 6-3, 6-1. Junior Carloyn Ahn went up against Arina Valitova in the fourth singles spot. Valitova won the first set 6-2. In the second set, Ahn attempted a comeback but Valitova bested Ahn in a tight 6-4 second set win. Army senior McKinnley Smith competed against Chloe Brown in the sixth singles spot. Brown won both sets 6-3, 6-4)
On the road, the Black Knights competed against Seton Hall, sweeping the Pirates, earning the doubles point. Army's Cooper Jackson and Elizabeth Gilbert defeated Arina Gumerova and Bella Moen 6-1. In the second and third spot, Isabella Brilliant and Emma Sy bested Emily O'Donovan and Hili Kronzon 6-3. Black Knights Sophie McKenzie and Ylan Duong defeated Oliwia Kempinski and Aina Ventosa with a final score of 7-5.
In the singles matches, Army's Cooper Jackson was in a back-and-forth match between Seton Hall's Arina Gumerova in the No. 1 spot. Jackson won the first set 6-4. In the second set, Gumerova bested Jackson 7-6 in a tiebreakers set. Jackson came back in the third set, defeating Gumerova 6-4.
In the second spot, Emma Sy went up against Aina Ventosa. Sy won both sets (6-1, 6-3). In the No. 3 spot, freshman Isabella Brilliant faced Oliwia Kempinski. Kempinski defeated Brilliant in two sets (6-3, 6-4). Freshman Ylan Duong competed against Seton Hall's Emily O'Donovan in the fourth singles spot. Duong cruised to a 6-4 and 6-1 decision.
