WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point sprint football team fell in the CSFL Championship Game to Navy 28-23 on Sunday afternoon at Shea Stadium.
Army got things rolling instantly going on a 14-play, 73-yard drive that took 6:20 off the clock to start the game. It was capped off with a one-yard touchdown run from Arthur Lavalais.
After forcing a three and out, the Black Knights got the ball back but were also forced to punt. Navy blocked the punt and brought it in for a touchdown to tie things up at 7-7.
Army responded with a 34-yard field goal from Alex Perine to go back up 10-7.
Navy responded by scoring the next three touchdowns of the game to go up 28-10.
The Black Knights would battle back however, the first Army drive of the fourth quarter saw them go on a five-play, 64-yard march down the field capped off with a Henry Beck touchdown run to make it a 28-17 ball game.
After getting a stop on defense, the Army offense got back to work and scored on a 17-yard pass from Mikal Willeke to Kobe Semien to cut the Midshipmen lead to just 28-23.
Unfortunately for Army, Navy would run the clock out after that seal the CSFL Championship for the third consecutive season.
The Black Knights finish the season 6-1 with a Star Game victory of Navy in a 10-3 thriller at Michie Stadium last month.
