ANNAPOLIS, Md. – In a rain soaked game, the Army West Point women's soccer team earned the right to sing second by beating Navy by a score of 2-1.
This is only the third time in program history that the Black Knights have beaten both Air Force and Navy in the same season (1997, 2004).
Army got on the board early after Madison Niebish scored her third goal of the year and second goal in as many games.
After consistent pressure from the Black Knights, they got another chance from a handball inside the box that led to a penalty kick in the 42nd minute. Kaelan Bradley lined it up and fired it to the bottom left for her third goal of the year. She's converted on PKs in back to back games.
The Mids had their share of chances, forcing Sage Strohman to make five first half saves but she kept them off the board going into the break.
The second half saw both teams exchange chances early on. Navy broke through to cut things to 2-1 in the 75th minute but that would be all they get as Army would beat Navy for the second straight year.
Strohman was remarkable yet again, making six saves on the night. This was the sixth consecutive game giving up one goal or less. She's only given up multiple goals once in the last ten games.
Army now leads the Star Series presented by USAA 4-1-1 with the other three wins coming in golf, sprint football, and women's cross country.
