Women’s Tennis Sweeps Pair of Matches Saturday

WEST POINT, N.Y. -The Army West Point women's tennis team posted a pair of victories over Binghamton and Sacred Heart at Lichtenberg Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Black Knights claimed identical 4-0 shutout wins over the Bearcats and the Pioneers as Army improved to 3-0 at home and 3-3 on the season.
In the Binghamton match, Army claimed the win in doubles behind the tandem of Elizabeth Gilbert and Paulina Feoli romping to a one-sided victory at No. 2, followed by a 6-3 decision at No. 3 behind the duo of McKinnley Smith and Anna Loureiro.
The Black Knights were hardly taxed to put the victory away sweeping three straight singles matches.
Isabella Brilliant took the measure of Caterina Casadei, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles; Julia Kelly was a 6-3, 6-0 winner taking the measure of Maria Pereira at No. 4, with Jenna Sabile posting a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 6 over Bridget Martin.
Army swept Sacred Heart with #1 doubles Cooper Jackson and Paige Herremans defeating Vitalina Golod and Kim Fenton 6-2. Securing the doubles point, Isabella Brilliant and Maria Drobotova bested the Pioneers Katsiaryna Starastsenka and Olivia Kharkover 6-2.
In the singles matches, Army's Cooper Jackson faced Katsiaryna Starastsenka in the No. 1 spot. Jackson won the first set 6-4. In the second set, Jackson defeated Starastsenka in a 7-6 overtime victory. Emma Sy and Ylan Duong both bested their opponents. Sy faced Vitalina Golod winning 6-4, 6-3. In No. 3 Duong competed against Olivia Kharkover, winning both sets (6-2, 6-0).
