Coach's Corner
"We split our team this weekend to give some key people a chance to compete in some special events. The majority of our team competed at the Villanova invite at the Ocean Breeze complex on Staten Island. Villanova limited the number of teams that could enter so the numbers were not overwhelming and the meet was smooth and orderly. Aysia Sala was our lone winner on the day. She won the shot with a mark that was short of her personal best but consistent with where she has been recently. We sent 3 multi-event athletes down to Liberty University to compete in a competitive Heptathlon (men) and pentathlon (women) on Thursday and Friday. We have had some success recently with our multi-eventers and we felt like this was the only weekend before the conference meet where they could compete in the multi. Zoe was our lone female entrant in the competition. She missed the December pentathlon so this was a good opportunity for her to get back into the rhythm of the event against a quality field of athletes. She did a nice job all the way through. Her point total of 3376 was higher than what we predicted for her going into the meet and is a good indicator of what she might be capable of in the future. She had several personal bests in the meet; one of which was the high jump where she cleared 5' 2.5". That event has been a struggle for her at times so having a solid effort this weekend bodes well for what she might be able to do going forward. We also sent Lindsey Smith up to Boston to compete in the long jump at the TRACK at New Balance on Friday. The meet was hosted by Boston College and we felt like the runway was fast and the meet was small so it would be a good opportunity for Lindsey to get re-acquainted with the long jump after a long layoff. She didn't set a personal best but she did look good on the runway. She is a great athlete and but the lack of repetition has often delayed her progress in the event. This competition was a good rust buster for her. We will be back at it again next weekend as we get closer to the championship season." - Director of track & field Mike Smith
