BALTIMORE, MD - Army West Point women's soccer battled to a 1-1 draw against Loyola Maryland on Saturday afternoon. The Black Knights used a late goal by Keira Vesy in the 86th minute of the second half to even the score.
GAME SUMMARY- The Black Knights remain unbeaten in Patriot League Conference play with a draw against the Greyhounds. The first half of the game proved what would be a great game. Throughout the first half both teams were defensively sound and while the Greyhounds outshot the Black Knights 4-5 in the first-half, Black Knights Goalkeeper Sage Strohman had two saves in the first half.
In the 67th minute, Loyola's Kelly Hutton scored with the assist from MK Barnes and Alex Searing to give Loyola the lead. However, the Black Knights fought back, and Keira Vesy tied the game up 1-1 at the 86' mark. Today Vesy had one shot, one shot on goal, and one goal. She matched her season high of one goal as well as matching her season high of shots on goal.
Although Loyola outshot the Black Knights 13-10, the Black Knights had six saves to their three and held the corner kicks advantage 5-3. This seemed to help the Black Knights as shortly after their corner kick, Keira Vesy scored the game-tying goal.

COACH'S CORNER- "Just so proud of our team's battle to the end! What a great finish by Keira but that was a culmination of responding to being a goal down. Loyola is a really solid squad and that was a huge point on the road for us. We've got a solid week to recover and focus on American!"
CADET'S CORNER- Keira Vesy's thoughts on today's game:
"Coming out of the first half, I think we did a really good job of defending from the front and challenging the other team after we lost the ball. We had some initial challenges sorting out our marks defensively in the back line, but we were able to communicate with one another and sort out our marking. Going into the second half, at first we were a little reactive to the other team, but after they scored their goal, we were able to put the pressure on. We started attacking more and creating more chances. Towards the end, I had the chance to move up to the final third of the field, where Jordan was able to play me the ball after a rebound. I knew we needed to create some offensive opportunities, so I decided to take the shot, and I was so happy that it went in! I am so proud of our team and the fact that we kept playing until the very last minute. We kept ourselves alive, and I'm excited for the next game ahead!"
UP NEXT- The Black Knights return home for Senior Night and will go up against American University on Saturday, October 1st at 7PM.
