For the first time ever, Army West Point will travel to Conway, South Carolina, 11 miles from historic Myrtle Beach to take on Coastal Carolina in the 2022 season opener on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 7pm on ESPN+. Army is coming off a 9-win 2021 season, which was highlighted by defeating an SEC opponent (Missouri) in the Armed Forces Bowl, marking Army's first win over an SEC school since 2009. Army features a roster that returns LB Andre Carter who posted 15.5 sacks last season (No. 2 in the FBS) and offensively is led by QB Tyhier Tyler, RB Jakobi Buchanan, and RB Tyrell Robinson, all three combining for 1,599 yards and 22 rushing TDs in 2021. Coastal Carolina enters 2022 off back-to-back 11-win seasons in each of 2020 and 2021. Last season was topped off with a Cure Bowl victory, led by returning QB Grayson McCall who threw for 27 TDs and just three INTs while helping the offense average 40.9 points per game (5th in FBS). The Chanticleers 22-3 mark since 2020 is tied for the third most wins in the FBS in that time span.
