Mikoud Concludes Historic Career At NCAA Championships
June 09, 2022 | Women's Track and Field
EUGENE, Ore. – Emily Mikoud, arguably the best female thrower in program and service academy history, wrapped up her career at the NCAA Championships competing in the hammer throw on Thursday.
Mikoud qualified for the event after setting the program and service academy records in the hammer at the NCAA East Regionals on May 26 with a mark of 66.64 meters. She became the first Black Knight to compete in the NCAA Women's Outdoor Championships since 1998.
Mikoud scored on two of her three attempts, with her first throw being her best at 63.43 meters (208-1). She placed 22nd and will be an All-American Honorable Mention.
Mikoud leaves West Point as the record holder for the program and service academy in the hammer throw and indoor weight throw, ranks second on the discuss and indoor shot put list, a 15-time Patriot League scorer, and a six-time Patriot League champion.
Cadet's Corner
"It was a really amazing competition today. There were a lot of personal bests and even the all-time collegiate record was set today, so I'm happy that I got to be there and witness that even though I wasn't able to make it to finals. Overall, I'm just thankful for the opportunity to be surrounded by amazing competition." - Emily Mikoud
Coach's Corner
"Emily Mikoud's first throw today was 63.43m 208' 1" and it was her best of the three in the semifinals. Prior to this year she had never thrown over 62 meters. What she and Coach Hershberger have accomplished this year just has been extraordinary. None of what I say about her will make her feel better about the outcome today but that is because she is such a good competitor and she came here to make the final. Her four-year NCAA career ended today but her legacy will last for a long, long time. She has elevated our throws program to national respect. She is without question the best female thrower to ever compete for a service academy and we will miss her." Mike Smith
