WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point baseball team used a trio of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to overtake Manhattan for an 8-5 win on Wednesday night at Johnson Stadium.

Derek Berg plated the go-ahead runs with a single that drove in both Ross Friedrick and Nick Manesis before Braden Golinski's RBI groundout lifted the Black Knights (24-20, 15-6 PL) to their final margin of victory.

Teddy Lepcio, who tossed one inning of scoreless relief, was awarded the win to improve to 2-1 this season while Sean Dennehy picked up the second save of his sophomore campaign after closing the game with two frames of shutout ball.

Army took an early lead in the midweek tilt, jumping out 3-0 in the opening two innings. Hunter Meade got the scoring started when he came in on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first, while both Manesis and Blake Ledoux drove in runs in the second with a groundout and a sac fly, respectively.

Matthew Ronnebaum held the Jaspers (18-23, 8-10 MAAC) hitless through the start of the game, but the visitors eventually got on the board in the top of the fourth with back-to-back sac flies that cut the lead down to 3-2. In the following frame, Manhattan took its first lead when a three-run homer hit off reliever Trevor Finan put the team on top at 5-3.

After leaving the bases loaded in the previous inning, Army scored a pair of runs to tie things up in the sixth. Carter Macias, who led off with a knock, came home on a single off the bat of Golinski before Ledoux pushed the score to 5-5 with another sac fly.

Lepcio retired all three batters he faced in the seventh and recorded the final out on strikes to preserve the tie. In the bottom of the frame, Army capitalized on a pair of leadoff walks by Manesis and Friedrick to stage its final comeback as both were driven in by Berg's play.

Dennehy took care of the final six outs for the Cadets and faced one over minimum before ending the game with a swinging strikeout.

What's Next
Army will continue its home stay with a pair of Patriot League doubleheaders on Saturday, May 7 opposite Lehigh and Sunday, May 8 against Lafayette. Both days are set for a 1 p.m. start. Sunday's match against the Leopards will be preceded by a senior day ceremony.
