Army Rallies Past Lehigh

 WEST POINT, N.Y. --- Army West Point Softball (16-24, 7-2) stunned Lehigh (19-14-1, 8-1) 8-0 in five innings after dropping the suspended game, from March 26, 6-4 to the Mountain Hawks.
Leila Hurst led the Black Knights with a .857 batting average, carrying over a home run and a single from the first portion of the game from March 26. She recorded six RBI, and two runs. Kayla Edwards posted a .600 batting average with three hits, three RBI, and two runs.

Game 1
The first three innings of game one was played on March 26 before the rain and field conditions suspended the game. Prior to the suspension, Army had rattled off four hits and four runs highlighted by the two RBI home run off the bat of Hurst in the bottom of the second. Hurst drew in the third run for the Black Knights in the bottom of the second off a base hit to give Army a 3-2 lead over Lehigh.
Lehigh fought back taking a 4-3 lead odd of two runs and three hits in the top of the third. The Black Knights were blanked in the bottom frame and headed to the field.

Before the game was suspended in the top of the fourth, Olivia Farris (1-13) grounded the first out before Lehigh drew a walk. Twenty-four days later, Lehigh scored two runs off two hits and an error to take a 6-3 lead over Army.
Army fired off two more hits in the bottom of the fifth but were unable to capitalize on the runners. Late in the game, in the bottom of the seventh, Army took advantage of a hit by pitch to a runner on base. The runner quickly, made her way to second off a passed ball. She was driven in by grounded out making the final score 4-6.
Game 2
The Black Knights blanked the Mountain Hawks, 8-0, in five innings. The first two and a half innings were a battle of the pitchers. Jolie Duong (8-8) was dealing in the circle for the Black Knights. She tossed one strikeout and only allowed two hits in her 5.0 innings of work. She retired 11 straight batters from the first to the fourth inning.
The bats came alive for the Black Knights in the bottom of the third, started by a single up the middle by Julianna LaRusso. Edwards followed with another base hit for the Black Knights. The two were quickly brought home by a home run off the bat of Hurst, giving Army the 3-0 lead over Lehigh. Army finished the frame with three runs off four hits.
Army fired off three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-0 lead over Lehigh. The rally was started by a single off the bay of Michaela Capicotto. Brook Mitchell followed with a bunt single before an error brought Capicotto home. Kayla Edwards hit a sacrifice fly out to center field to drive in Mitchell making the score 5-0. Hurst drove in the final run of the frame off a base hit to center field. The Black Knights finished with three runs on three hits and an error for a 6-0 lead.
Lehigh looked to answer back in the top of the fifth but were shut down by Army. Lauren Little started the momentum for Army in the bottom of the fifth, with a single up the middle, she quickly made her way to second base during the next at bat. Ellie Caldwell fired off an RBI single down the right field line making the score 7-0. Capicotto closed the door on Lehigh for good with an RBI double to end the game in five innings.

Army will host Fordham on Wednesday, April 20, for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. at the Softball Complex.
