Lin, Rankin Garner Patriot League All-Academic Honors
March 03, 2022 | Men's Swimming and Diving
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Army West Point men's swimming & diving team claimed two spots on the Patriot League All-Academic Team, which was announced on Thursday morning, as both Kevin Lin and Will Rankin received the honor.
The nods come after a strong outing at the Patriot League Championship, where the Black Knights finished second in the team standings after racking up 740.50 points, the most the program has scored since the 2018-19 campaign.
Lin, a senior captain for the Cadets, holds a cumulative GPA of 3.95 in electrical engineering. The Maryland native scored in a slew of different events at the championship meet, highlighted by his second-place finish in the 800 Free Relay. Lin also collected key points in the 400 IM (11th), the 200 IM (12th, personal best) and the 200 Fly (12th).
With a 4.07 cumulative GPA as a life sciences major, Rankin landed a spot on the All-Academic Team as a junior. A Hull, Iowa native, he helped the Black Knights achieve a pair of relay podium finishes, doing so in the 200 Free Relay (third) as well as the 400 Free Relay (third). Rankin also finished 10th in the 100 Free and 11th in the 200 Free, recording new personal bests in both events.
Thanks to their stalwart performances in both the pool and the classroom, Lin and Rankin have become the eighth and ninth swimmers in program history to collect All-Academic laurels. Additionally, this marks the first time that the Black Knights have placed two onto the All-Academic squad since 2014.
