WEST POINT, N.Y.— Veteran position coach Sean Cronin has joined the Army Football coaching staff, as announced on Wednesday.
With a 19-year tenure of coaching experience, Cronin comes to West Point following two seasons (2020-21) at Colorado State and will coach the Black Knights' defensive line unit.
In his two seasons with the Rams, Cronin's defensive front received a No. 7 ranking for fewest total-yardage allowed and additionally ranked within the NCAA's top 30 for fewest total opponent points allowed.
Colorado State also tied for 17th in the country for total sacks in 2021.
Prior to joining Colorado State, Cronin spent three seasons at South Florida, where he coached outside linebackers (2019) and defensive tackles (2017-18) for the Bulls. Cronin molded Dwayne Boyles into the team's leading tackler (75), who also paced the team in tackles-for-loss (12.5).
In his first season at South Florida, Cronin coached a defensive line that etched a No. 5 ranking in the nation in tackles-for-loss and 11th in sacks. South Florida's defense finished ranked in the top 25 of the NCAA in six categories, jumping from 120th in total defense and 92nd in scoring the year prior to 37th and 41st, respectively, in the 2017 campaign.
Cronin has served two stints coaching the defensive line at Marshall (2010, 2013-16), where his guidance steered defensive end Vinny Curry to become the 59th overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft.
The 2011-12 seasons saw Cronin hold the position of defensive line coach at Temple, leading to his position group garnering Third-Team All-Conference honors in 2011.
Temple's defense also ranked third in the country in scoring defense.
In 2009, Cronin coached on the defensive side at The Citadel, following a three-year stint as a graduate assistant coach at Florida (2006-08), where eight Gators would become NFL draft selections.
A Georgetown (Ky.) graduate, Cronin began his coaching career at Clarion University, where he spent two seasons as linebackers coach upon completion of a master's degree in 2004.For complete coverage of Army West Point football, follow the Black Knights on Twitter and Instagram at @ArmyWP_Football and online at www.goarmywestpoint.com.
