DETROIT, Mich. – The Army West Point wrestling team had a solid first day of action at the 2022 NCAA Championship at Little Caesars Arena, as three different cadet-athletes kept their seasons alive.
The Black Knights finished Thursday's competition tied with four other programs for 48th in the team standings, having collected 1.5 points. In total, the program finished the first day of action with a 3-5 mark.
Ben Pasiuk highlighted the opening day of action for the Cadets, as he accounted for the team's only upset win of the competition when he defeated No. 21 O'Reilly from Minnesota via 7-1 decision as a 28-seed in the 174 lb. weight class.
After a slow start in the first session of the day, which saw Army go a combined 0-4 in the Rounds of 32, Pasiuk and two other Cadets secured wins in the opening consolation round. No. 24 P.J. Ogunsanya posted a 12-7 decision opposite No. 25 Munson (Central Michigan) while No. 23 Markus Hartman downed No. 26 Barton from Lock Haven, 9-6.
