COACH'S CORNER
"The majority of our team had the weekend off from competition to focus on preparation for the Patriot League Championship meet next weekend. Some of our people competed to sharpen up for next weekend and many others were competing for a spot on the conference roster. We also sent a few people to Penn State yesterday for a more competitive effort on the track."
Women
"The highlight from today came from Isabel Crandall in the pole vault. She has steadily improved all year and has had some very good attempts at higher bars and today finally got over 12' 4". Consistency is the key to success in the vertical jumps and Isabel is starting to do a better job in that area and should be a strong competitor next week at the conference championship. We also had some strong marks in the throws as that group continues to build toward next weekend. Yesterday we sent Anna Tovkach to Penn State in the hope that she could lower her time in the 800. I have felt all along that she could continue to run faster in the 800 if we kept giving her opportunities and yesterday she did a nice job of executing and setting a new school record, Patriot League record, and service academy record (2:05.39). She left the meet happy with her improvement but not satisfied."
Men
"Most of our men were off today. The throwers did compete today and collectively they performed quite well. Jamir Gibson was a winner again in the weight throw and has done well to win as often as he has this winter. He is a great competitor and is in a good spot as we prepare for the meet next weekend. On the oval, the weekend highlight came from Kevin Sembrat. We sent him to Penn State to see if he could get our school record in the 400. He came up .09 seconds short in running a new personal best of 47.72. That time will probably move him into the top spot in the Patriot League by the end of the weekend. He has been one of our most consistent long sprinters this year and his confidence is very high right now."
"Our team has done a great job of training and competing this fall/winter and we are in a good spot as we get ready for next weekend. It will be a very competitive meet."
