Army Falls In High Octane Contest To Conference-Leading Colgate

WEST POINT, N.Y. – All five starters scored in double figures, led by a game-high 29 points by Jalen Rucker, as the Army Black Knights fell to conference-leading Colgate, 100-90, on Wednesday night.
GAME SUMMARY
Army matched Colgate shot for shot in the highest combined scoring game of the season for the Black Knights; however, the Raiders eventually outlasted the Black Knights to win their eighth straight game.
The Black Knights stayed within striking distance throughout the contest despite only leading once, at 5-3 two minutes into the game. The Raiders, then, went on an 11-0 run in two minutes. Colgate built a 20-9 lead with 14 minutes left, making 7 of 11 shots from the field including six 3-pointers; the Raiders finished the first half with 11 3-pointers.
The Raiders had their largest lead of the game, 37-25, with 8:41 remaining before the Cadets reeled off nine straight points to face a five-point deficit with six minutes left in the first half. Colgate answered with five straight points and went into halftime a 52-43 lead.
Colgate scored the first points of the second half before Army followed with six straight points to cut the score to 54-49. Colgate connected on a triple on its next possession which was a common theme in the game whenever the Black Knights inched closer. Army faced a 10-point deficit heading into the final 10 minutes but quickly cut the lead to 76-71 on a 3-pointer by Aaron Duhart with 8:53 remaining. However, the Raiders responded with a 7-0 run.
The Black Knights answered with an 8-0 run to trail 83-79 with five minutes left. Colgate managed to push its lead to 92-81 over the next two minutes on its way to the win.
CADETS CAPSULES
- Jalen Rucker tied a career-high in scoring with 29 points for a game-high total. He added three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
- Charlie Peterson scored a career-high 18 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the field and made a team-high six free throws. He chipped in five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block.
- Josh Caldwell netted 12 points and grabbed four rebounds. He had a game-high three assists and is six steals away from setting the single-season steals record.
- Aaron Duhart scored 11 points and dished out a game-high six assists.
- Chris Mann scored 10 points and snagged a team-high six rebounds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Five Cadets – all starters – scored in double figures for the first time this season.
- The 190 total points are the most in a game this season and Army's 90 points are its third-most points.
- Army's 12 3-pointers are tied for the second-most and went 50 percent from 3-point range which ties a season-best.
