Black Knights Drop Contest to Hofstra University Pride

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.-The Army West Point women's basketball team (2-6, 0-0 PL) fell to the Hofstra Pride (4-4, 0-0 CAA) 56-53 Wednesday night. Army had three cadet-athletes, make double figures. Kamryn Hall led the Black Knights with 16 points while Reese Ericson had 15, and senior Sabria Hunter had 10 points.
How It Happened
The Black Knights led the entire first quarter. Army's Reese Ericson struck first getting the Black Knights on the board with a triple. Hall followed suit with a jumper. After the Pride got on the board with a jumper of their own by Brandy Thomas, the Black Knights had a 9-2 lead before Thomas struck back with a 3-point basket making it a 9-5 game. Hall made a jumper giving Army a six-point lead. With 2:24 left in the first quarter, Ericson made another 3-point shot giving the Black Knights a 16-9 lead.
In the second quarter, the Pride cut the lead with two free throw attempts from Thomas, and a 3-point shot from Sorelle Ineza, giving Hofstra their first lead of the night. Hall answered back with a jump shot giving Army a one-point lead. With 6:16 left of the clock, Emma Von Essen gave the Pride a one point lead with a jumper. With scoring going back and forth, the Black Knights tied everything up with 1:26 left on the clock with a made free-throw from Sabria Hunter. Going into halftime Army led Hofstra 28-25.
After Hofstra made one of two free throw attempts in the second half, McNaughton answered back in kind with a shot from beyond the arch. With 4:56 left on the clock, Army went on a 5-0 run with a layup from Hunter and a 3-point basket from Natalie Rhine. However, Hofstra's Janaia Fargo answered back with a layup of her own, cutting the Black Knights lead to five points. Hall again extended Army's lead to seven points with a jump shot. The Pride's Ineza responded with a 3-point shot with two minutes left on the clock cutting Army's lead to four-points. Hunter extended the Black Knights lead to six after making both free throw attempts. In the final seconds of the third quarter Hofstra's Ineza made both of her free throw attempts again cutting Army's lead to four points.
In the fourth quarter, Sam McNaughton extended Army's lead with a 3-point shot. In kind Hofstra answered back with a 5-0 run. The Black Knights came back with 7-0 run of their own. Ericson had a jumper and a shot from beyond the arch, while Hall made a layup. With 2:17 left in the fourth quarter, Von Essen further cut into the Black Knights lead to 3-points after making a 3-point basket. The Pride went on a run giving them a 54-53 lead. Hall got the Black Knights within one with a layup with 15 seconds left in the game. The Hofstra Pride won 56-53 after Ally Knights made two free throws.
