December 20, 2022 | Football
The 26 members on the first team, including Bishop have an average GPA of 3.88, with both the first and second teams holding a collective average GPA of 3.86.
A native of Holland, Pa. Bishop, started every game of his senior season at center and served as a one of two team captains for the season for the Black Knights. Bishop holds the honor of maintaining one of the highest GPAs on the team with a 3.97, while majoring in Business Management.
Last week, he was selected to the Phil Steele All-Independent First Team Offense, playing a vital role in the success of Army's rushing attack, which finished No. 2 in the country rushing for 289.4 yards per game and also finishing T-2nd with 38 rushing touchdowns.
Bishop played in 31 games in his West Point career and is on track to graduate from West Point in May.
Junior LB Leo Lowin was awarded with a second team Academic All-American selection. Lowin has excelled in the classroom producing a 3.91 GPA while studying Engineering Management. At the same time he enjoyed a breakout season on the field for the Black Knights, starting in 11 games while posting a team best 100 tackles (48 solo), five tackles for loss, three sacks, and two interceptions.
With his 100 tackles this season, he marked the first Army player to surpass 100+ tackles on the season since Cole Christiansen (112) in 2019. He was also one of three FBS players to record 100+ tackles, 3+ sacks and 2+ INTs this year.
Last week, he was named to Phil Steele's All-Independent Second Team Defense.
The award is given by College Sports Communicators (formerly known as CoSIDA) annually to the most accomplished student-athletes for academic and athletic achievement each year since 1952. The sports sponsored are soccer, volleyball, football, basketball, baseball, softball, track and field/cross country and an at-large program that includes sports for which the NCAA sponsors a championship. To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better and be a starter or key reserve.
CSC's academic team is the longest-running and most prestigious academic and athletic award for student-athletes. Nominating and voting are privileges held exclusively by College Sports Communicators members on behalf of student-athletes from throughout the NCAA, NAIA, two-year Colleges and Canadian institutions.
In November Bishop, Lowin, Peyton Hampton and Quinn Maretzki were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the first step to reaching All-American status.
