Women’s Soccer Advances to Patriot League Championship with 2-0 Semifinal Victory Over Lehigh

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army West Point women's soccer took down fourth-seeded Lehigh by a score of 2-0 in Thursday night's Patriot League semifinal at Malek Stadium.
Lindsey Smith scored the game-winning goal for the Black Knights in the first half, with Brigid Duffy making it a 2-0 contest with her third goal of the season in the second half. Dara Murray provided assists on both of the Army scores, delivering a pair of wonderful services.
Both teams struggled to maintain possession in the early stages, with no chances created through the first 15 minutes. The first goal of the game came on the first shot, with Lindsey Smith scoring her first goal of the season to pull Army ahead. Dara Murray collected at midfield and dribbled right to the center circle, with Smith making the run from right back into the channel down the right side.
Murray delivered a perfect ball over the top for Smith to run into, outpacing the Lehigh defender to get onto the ball. With the Mountain Hawks keeper coming out to challenge, Smith took it early and went for placement, sliding the ball into the back of the net to break the deadlock.
Sage Strohman was called into action in the 26th minute to preserve the lead, coming out to make a brilliant save on a charging Corinne Lyght to keep the score level. The Black Knights took the one-goal lead into the second half.
Army took the pivotal two-goal lead in the 63rd minute, with Lauren Drysdale playing Murray down the left flank. Murray delivered a service into the box, which was met by the head of Brigid Duffy, who notched her second goal in as many games to make it a 2-0 contest.
Lehigh would begin to pressure Army across the final 20 minutes, with Strohman making three saves in quick succession with 15 minutes to play. The Army all-league goalie made another fine stop on Lyght, with a fingertip save over the bar on a quick strike. Seeing out the two-goal advantage, Army was able to collect its ninth shutout of the season while improivng to (8-0-1) at home this season.
