Men's Hoops Fall to William & Mary

Williamsburg, Va. – Army West Point Men's Basketball (2-2) fell Saturday afternoon in the first game of the William & Mary MTE vs. William & Mary (2-3) by a score of 76-67. Army entered Saturday's action ranked in the national top 10 in scoring at nearly 95 points per game but were held to just 67 points.
How It Happened
The Black Knights went into the break with a two point lead but were outscored 40-29 in the second half of the defeat. Senior Chris Mann was the high point man for Army with 17 points, season high. In the first half Army carried its momentum from its big over Siena on Wednesday night, to shoot 7-15 (46.7%) from three-point range.
Army got off to an early 16-9 lead, seeing four three point makes, two by Chris Mann, TJ Small, and Jalen Rucker. TJ Small connected from three again making the score, 21-15. Small scored eight points in the game behind 2-3 shooting from three-point range.
However, in the second half Army's long-distance shooting would cool off as they shoot 2-11 from three-point range in the second half. A turning point in the game was when the Tribe went on an 8-0 scoring run to take a 55-44 lead with 11:22 to go in the game. Army would continue to fight when freshman Ethan Roberts drilled a deep three, to cut the deficit to nine, 58-49.
The Black Knights would get the William & Mary lead back down to four points, 67-63 after three consecutive buckets by Chris Mann and Jalen Rucker. The Tribe would immediately respond with six straight points to push the lead back to 10 with under two minutes to play.
Ben Wight led the way for William & Mary scoring 21 points and securing nine rebounds. Anders Nelson (14), Chris Mullins (11), and Jake Milkereit (10) all scored in double figures for William & Mary.
William & Mary shot just 4-17 from three-point range, but Gabe Dorsey finished 3-5 from deep for nine points.
Two others cadets scored in double figures for Army were freshman Coleton Benson (16) and Senior Jalen Rucker (12).
