Army Powers Past Mansfield

WEST POINT, N.Y.- Junior quarterback Mikal Willeke completed 13 of 18 passes for 255 yards and three touchdowns leading the Army West Point sprint football team to a 54-6 victory over Mansfield in a conference match on Friday evening at Shea Stadium.
Senior wide receiver Donovan Mannion had four catches for a season high of 107 receiving yards, three receiving touchdowns and was the recipient of two of Willeke's three touchdown passes.
How it Happened
Acting first, with 12 minutes on the clock, the Black Knights scored in their opening drive when sophomore running back Henry Beck scrambled the final two yards to pay dirt. Junior wide-receiver Traye Carson extended Army's lead with a pass connecting with Donovan Mannion, further extending their lead 17-0 with six minutes left in the first quarter.
Leading 31-3 going into the second half, the Black Knights further extended their lead with Willeke again connecting with Mannion, for a 29-yard receiving scoring strike widening their lead to 38-6 with nine minutes left in the third quarter.
Quarterback Willeke recorded another solid game, completing two and a half quarters, he finished the night with 13 of 18 attempts for 255 yards, and three touchdowns. Quarterbacks Seth Brown and Justin Fitzgerald shared action the rest of the night. Brown finished completing one passing attempt and rushed for ten yards in three attempts. Justin Fitzgerald had a touchdown pass connecting with Gerald Moore in the fourth quarter.
The Black Knights dominated the Mounties defensively. Army held Mansfield to 245 total yards, not allowing them to score any touchdowns, forcing them to settle instead for a pair of field goals. Junior linebacker Luke Gigliotti led the Black Knights with eight total tackles. Army also forced two fumbles, junior Caleb Self forced a fumble in the first quarter and Clay Earp had a fumble recovery in the fourth quarter.
