WEST POINT, N.Y. In a defensive battle, the Black Knights defeated the Lafayette Leopards, 1-0, thanks to a first-half goal by co-captain Emma Richey on Wednesday night.
How it Happened
First Half
- At the 18' minute mark, senior Dara Murray's shot on goal gave Army its first scoring opportunity, but her shot was saved by Lafayette's goalkeeper Natalie Neumann.
- Twenty-seven minutes in, Drysdale took another shot that Neumann saved.
- Shortly after, Brigid Duffy took a shot that went left of the post.
- In the 36th minute, senior Emma Richey scored for the Black Knights, giving Army a 1-0 lead. Richey collected the ball at the far post from a corner kick and her shot crossed the line before the defense cleared it.
- Five minutes into the second half, Madison Niebish took a shot that was blocked.
- Immediately following, Jordan Follenweider had a shot that went left.
- In the 72' minute mark, Army missed an opportunity for a 2-0 lead, when a shot by Elise Urkov was saved by Neumann.
- At the 77th minute, Jasmine Talley took a shot that again went right of the post.
- Goalkeeper Sage Strohman had two saves, both keeping Lafayette scoreless.
- Hoping to further extend the lead, Murray took a shot in the 88th minute but Lafayette's Neumann stopped the shot with a save.
- Army's defense in the second half had continued success in keeping the Leopards scoreless.
