WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army West Point Head Women's Soccer Coach Tracy Chao has announced the addition of Brett Axelrod as an assistant coach for the Black Knights ahead of the 2026 season. Axelrod brings more than fourteen years of collegiate coaching experience across NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, including three seasons as a Division II head coach and a strong background in goalkeeper development, recruiting, and program operations.
Axelrod arrives at West Point after serving as the head women's soccer coach at Dominican University New York, where he led the Chargers to consecutive postseason appearances, including the 2024 CACC Semifinals and the 2023 CACC Quarterfinals. During his tenure, Dominican produced multiple All-CACC selections, two CACC All-Tournament honorees, and more than one hundred academic award recipients. The program earned twelve CSC Academic All-District selections, twenty-two CACC All-Academic honorees, and back-to-back United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Awards.
Prior to his time at Dominican, Axelrod held assistant coaching roles at Saint Peter's University, Fordham University, LIU-Brooklyn, and Whitman College. His tenure at Fordham included a 2017 NCAA Quarterfinal appearance and the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship, while LIU captured the 2015 NEC title and an NCAA Tournament berth during his time on staff.
Axelrod also brings significant club and goalkeeper training experience. He currently coaches with World Class FC, where he has led multiple girls' ECRL teams to regional success, including a New England ECRL League Cup Championship and an ECRL East Regionals appearance. He also serves as a goalkeeper coach with Modern Goalkeeper Training Systems, training athletes ages eight through eighteen in technical, tactical, and college-recruiting development.
A four-year starting goalkeeper at Whitman College, Axelrod earned Northwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors, served as a team captain, and received the Borleske Award as the institution's top male student-athlete. He ranked among the top five nationally in goals-against average and save percentage during his senior season.
Axelrod holds a U.S. Soccer C License, with his B License in progress, along with multiple United Soccer Coaches diplomas. He earned his master's degree in human resource management from Stony Brook University and his bachelor's degree in sociology from Whitman College.
