Black Knights Pick Up Road Win At Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Army West Point volleyball team concluded its stretch of four straight away matches with a 3-1 victory over the Holy Cross Crusaders on Saturday.
MATCH SYNOPSIS
After dropping their first league match of the season at Colgate in the battle of unbeatens on Friday night, the Black Knights got back in the win column with a four-set win against the Crusaders.
Army had to erase a one set deficit after falling in the first set by the score of 25-21. The Black Knights responded with venom to open the second set. The defense set the tone with the two first points coming off blocks. The Black Knights also got kills by Allanah Cutler and Savannah Bray, and a pair of aces by Diana Ethridge for a 9-0 lead. Army led the entire way as the Black Knights tied the match at 1-1.
The Black Knights followed with their best statistical set of the match. Army finished with 16 kills for a .419 hitting percentage and a 69 sideout percent which were all match-best numbers. The Black Knights roared to another fast start, leading 9-1 after 10 points. Army didn't slow down, accelerating to a 17-5 lead en route to a 25-12 victory.
There were a few lead changes in the early stages of the fourth set. However, Army went on a run to take a 17-9 lead. The Black Knights finished the set on a strong service game by Mackenzie Karning.
CADET CAPSULES
- Alyssa Lukasik set a career-high in kills with a match-leading total of 14.
- Diana Ethridge recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 40 assists and 11 digs. She added a career-high five aces.
- Paige Fixemer had 10 kills and match-high five block assists.
- Savannah Bray added eight kills, nine digs and tied a career-high with two solo blocks.
- Sayler Butters had a match-leading 18 digs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The eight aces are tied for second most this season.
- Alyssa Lukasik's .565 hitting percentage is the second highest by a Black Knight this season.
