WEST POINT, N.Y. --- Army West Point (3-1) women's rugby defeated Quinnipiac(1-2) 39-0 on Friday night at the Anderson Rugby Complex.
Codi Butt had a stellar night on the pitch scoring two tries, three conversions and a penalty kick for the Black Knights. Army's offense was dominant throughout the game, allowing five different Cadets to score tries. Hope Moseley, Emma Gamboa, Kaitlyn Schwarting, McKayle O'Boyle and Butt each found their way to the end zone for the Black Knights.
The teams battled in the first half and were scoreless until Butt recorded Army's first points off a penalty kick that allowed the momentum to shift in favor of the Cadets. The kick was soon followed by a try to end the half. In the second half, Army scored fives tries while keeping Quinnipiac scoreless for another 40 minutes.
Coach's Corner
" First off, huge shout out to the Army fans who filled the stands and the parachute team with their awesome half time performance. Truly a game changer when you have a crowd like that for a Friday night game under the lights against a physical Quinnipiac team. It was a back and forth match the first half as we didn't come out of the gate playing our game and Quinnipiac came ready to fight. We were finally able to get points on the board with a penalty conversion kick from Codi Butt which ultimately swung momentum our way and drove us to end the half with a try. The second half was a different story as our grit and determination started to kick in. We were able to capitalize, gain momentum, and score at very critical times. Our impact subs stepped up in a big way and truly showed the depth of this relatively young team. Whereas there are always improves after every game, there were so many skillful and elite phases of rugby to be proud of as a whole. Looking forward to getting to work this week to prepare for our next match." - Head coach Bill Leclerc
