Buchanan, Finucane Earn Preseason Offensive Accolades

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point football team saw two members of the offensive unit earn 2021 Preseason All-Independent Team honors from Phil Steele Publications recently.

Running back Jakobi Buchanan and lineman Connor Finucane were recognized as second team honorees by the publication.

Buchanan returns for his junior season as one of the top running backs on the team after playing in 11 games during the 2020 season. He ran for over 560 yards on 111 attempts and six touchdowns. He ran for a career high 106 yards and two touchdowns, including a 40-yard scamper against Louisiana-Monroe to help Army move to 2-0 on the season. Buchanan also had touchdowns in games against Abilene Christian, UTSA and Georgia Southern.

The St. Charles, Mo., native had one of the biggest touchdowns of the season in 2020. He scored from 1-yard out on 4th-and-goal against Air Force to take a 10-7 lead and clinch the Commander in Chief Trophy title at Michie Stadium.

Finucane is back at West Point following a productive plebe season as an integral part of the offensive line. He saw action in 10 games for the Black Knights and made a start on the line against Tulane on Oct. 24 for his first career start. The Baton Rouge, La., native helped Army rush for 273 yards per game and 36 touchdowns on the ground.

The Black Knights kickoff the 2021 season on the road against Georgia State on Saturday, Sept. 4, with a 12 pm start on ESPNU.
