Black Knights Fall in Hard-Fought Semifinal Matchup with Lehigh

BALTIMORE – The Army West Point women's lacrosse team fell to Lehigh 10-8 in the Patriot League semifinal Thursday evening at the Ridley Athletic Complex. This was the Black Knights' second trip to the semifinal game in its young program history.
Lehigh opened the scoring at the 27:56 mark with free position goal from Cecily Redfern.
The Black Knights answered back just under two minutes later with an unassisted tally from Cameron Manor. Jackie Brattan added her first tally of the evening at the 19:28 mark of the first half. Though, the Mountain Hawks evened things up at the 18:12 mark.
Manor added her second goal with an unassisted tally at the 16:41 mark to give Army the 3-2 lead. The Mountain Hawks scored the contest's next two goals to push ahead 4-3 with just under 10 minutes to play in the opening half.
The Black Knights responded with two consecutive goals of their own. Brattan added her second of the contest at the 7:31 mark. Jolie Riedell netter her first of the contest with just over five minutes left to put Army ahead 5-4.
Lehigh used a 4-0 run spanning from the late portion of the first half into the early goings of the second to take the 8-5 advantage.
Momentum appeared to be entirely in the Mountain Hawks' favor when Army was whistled for a yellow card at the 20:45 mark and a free position attempted ensued for Lehigh. However, the Black Knights held strong defensively and managed to get a goal in transition from Brattan to end the Mountain Hawks run at the 19:22 mark.
The goal ignited a 3-0 run for Army in just a 2:18 span, Raymond and Brattan each added tallies respectively.
Lehigh halted Army's run with a goal at the 10:29 mark to gain the one-goal advantage. The Mountain Hawks added on more goal at the 7:01 mark to make it 10-8.
Hannah Slomkowski had five saves in net for the Black Knights.
This marked the final contest for Army's senior class of Mikayla Bergin, Grace Blomberg, Jackie Brattan, Lauren Bredenburg, Beth Hofmann, Leslie Lewis, Cameron Manor, Anna Orlando, Megan Raftery, Riley Roarick, Hannah Slomkowski, Charlotte Spencer and Lexi West. The group closed out their careers with a 36-15 record and had a winning record each season.
