May 27, 2021 | Women's Track and Field
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Army West Point track & field team was well-represented on the second day of action at the NCAA East Region Prelim, as five different Black Knights competed at UNF's Hodges Stadium on Thursday.
Both Abigail Green and Emily Mikoud took part in the first event of the day, the women's hammer throw. Green finished with a final mark of 58.85m, good for 27th overall, while Mikoud placed 38th with a 58.25m toss.
The Black Knights additionally had a pair of cadets in action in the following event, the women's javelin, as both Brooke Stratman and Nicole Sacchinelli were among the field. Stratman turned in a 44.03m throw en route to finishing 34th while Sacchinelli (40.64m) checked in 46th overall.
The final cadet to compete on the second day of action was Anna Tovkach, who ran the 800m. The reigning Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year set a new personal best in the event at 2:06.11, knocking 0.08 off her previous mark. Despite her effort, Tovkach did not qualify for Friday's quarterfinal, missing the mark by just 0.02 seconds.
With the exception of Mikoud, who will compete in the discus on Friday afternoon, the aforementioned group is done competing at the regional meet. The men's team, which saw August Cook qualify for a trip to the NCAA Championship for the third time in his career after finishing sixth in yesterday's javelin event, has one more remaining cadet competing tomorrow. The rest of the slate for the Black Knights, which includes an action-packed finale on Saturday, can be viewed below.
