Baseball Prepares to Host Lafayette in Divisional Semifinals

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point baseball team is set to take on Lafayette in the Patriot League Divisional Semifinals this weekend at Doubleday Field. The best-of-three series between the second-seeded Black Knights and the third-seeded Leopards will begin on Saturday, May 15 with a doubleheader (1:05 p.m. & 4:05 p.m.). If needed, the third game is scheduled for a 1:05 p.m. first pitch on Sunday, May 16. Each of the three contests will be streamed on ESPN+.

Prior to the start of Saturday's games, the trio of Anthony Giachin, Tim Simoes and Sam Ruta will be honored by the Patriot League for earning postseason recognition. Giachin was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Simoes and Ruta collected Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors, respectively.
The Black Knights (24-21, 13-10 Patriot League) own a 6-2 advantage over the Leopards (13-15, 12-13 Patriot League) in 2021, a mark that was boosted by their four-game sweep at the start of April. Army has outscored Lafayette 67-36 this season and has held the team to four-or-less runs five times.
This weekend will mark the start of Army's pursuit of its third Patriot League title since 2018. The Black Knights remain the league's reigning champions, having taken home the conference crown in 2019.
