Duong, Grete Blank Bucknell; Black Knights Sweep Doubleheader

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team completed its first doubleheader sweep of the year, picking up a 3-0 win over Bucknell on Saturday afternoon before defeating the Bison 5-0 in game two.
Both Jolie Duong and Alicyn Grete shined in the circle, each tossing a shutout in their respective appearances. Duong's blanking of the Bison was the team's first shutout since an 8-0 victory over Saint Joseph's earlier in the season (March 13).
A combination of early scoring and Duong's outing boosted the Black Knights past the Bison in the first game of the day. Kayla Edwards opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first when she blasted her first career home run out to left field, awarding the team its initial lead.
Angelina Bebek then continued the push in the following frame, driving in Taylor Livingston and Alicyn Grete with a two-out double. Her team-best sixth double of the year pushed Army's lead to 3-0.
Duong carried what would have been her first career no-hitter into the top of the seventh, but conceded a full-count single to Bucknell's Sarah Baluch. The Bison then drew a walk to bring the tying run to the plate, but Duong got out of the jam to pick up her sixth complete game of the year. She improves to 5-1 in the circle and finished her day with a pair of strikeouts.
Army struck early once again in the second game of the afternoon, as Livingston's RBI single plated Madi Gilmore. The Black Knights stretched the lead out to 3-0 in the following inning with another RBI single and a sac fly.
Bebek completed the team's scoring in the fourth frame, launching her third homer of the year and driving in Livingston to put the team up 5-0. Army went on to finish the second game with 12 hits, marking its fourth double-digit effort of the season.
In the circle, Grete improved her record to 4-7 and fanned eight batters. She at one point had a streak of retiring 10-straight.

The teams will reconvene at the Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon for another doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
