May 01, 2021 | Baseball
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Black Knights split Saturday's doubleheader at Holy Cross, falling 4-3 in 10 innings in game one before taking game two 17-14 also in 10 innings at Fitton Field.
The Black Knights (17-18, 11-8 PL) got on the board first in game one on an RBI ground out from Jeremiah Adams before Holy Cross evened things up with a solo home run in the third.
The Black Knights jumped out to a 3-1 lead on a Carter Macias two-RBI double in the sixth, but Holy cross answered right back with two of their own in the sixth.
From there, the game, which as the first of a doubleheader was scheduled to be seven innings, lasted three innings beyond that, when the Crusaders broke through with an RBI single to center from Holy Cross' Selima to walk the Black Knights off.
Connley Early took the loss, but starter Anthony LoRicco put up a solid day at the yard in the no-decision, tossing 6.1 innings, allowing just three runs on nine hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
Relievers Tanner Gresham and Teddy Lepcio also made appearances. Lepcio tossed 2.1 scoreless down the stretch, allowing just one hit and three strikeouts to keep the game tied to give the Black Knights a shot down the stretch but they just couldn't put together that clutch hit.

The Black Knights were down by as many as nine runs, 10-1 in the second inning, including a grand slam by Selima, the hero of game one.
However, the Black Knights never-say-die attitude was on display as they chipped away at the lead, pulling within three, 11-8 in the fourth as the Black Knights took advantage of an error.

From there the Black Knights scored four runs in the 10th inning to take a 17-13 lead. In the bottom of the 10th the Crusaders tacked on on off a fielding error, but the defense and pitching shored things up to finish off the win.
Nick Manesis led the way with a 2-for-4, 4 RBI, 4 run performance in game two while Sam Ruta was 2-for-5 with thee RBI and three walks. Overall the Black Knights banged out the 17 runs on 16 hits with home runs from Manesis and Walden.
