Women's Lacrosse Wins Big on Senior Day
April 24, 2021 | Women's Lacrosse
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's lacrosse team used an early 10-0 run to top Bucknell, 19-8, on senior day at Michie Stadium. The Black Knights are now up to five straight wins.
Â
"It's been awesome over our four years to see how far this team has come and what our class has been able to do for this program," Army senior Cameron Manor said. "Everyone was playing for each other today. In the locker room before the game we were so excited to get out and play for all the seniors."
Â
Manor had a career-high seven points with four goals and three assists. Both Jackie Brattan and Jolie Riedell also posted four-goal performances.
Â
Bucknell was the first team on the board with Kali Peeples finding the back of the net less than a minute into the contest. After that it was all Army from there. The Cadets scored 10 unanswered goals in a 20-minute span to push ahead by nine. Three of Jackie Brattan's four goals came during the spurt. In total, Army had seven different goal scorers during the run, including senior Beth Hofmann, who notched her first goal of the season.
Â
The Black Knights eventually went on to take a 13-3 lead into halftime. In the first half, Army outshot Bucknell 27-5.
Â
The Cadets continued to roll in the beginning of the second half. Army opened the frame four of the first five goals. Bucknell went on a 4-0 run to cut Army's lead to nine, but the Cadets added the final two tallies.
Â
Army won the draw control battle 21-6 and claimed all 10 in the second half. This marked the second time this season that Army won 20 or more draws.
Â
Following the win, Army honored its senior class of Mikayla Bergin, Grace Blomberg, Jackie Brattan, Lauren Bredenburg, Beth Hofmann, Leslie Lewis, Cameron Manor, Anna Orlando, Megan Raftery, Riley Roarick, Hannah Slomkowski and Charlotte Spencer.
Â
"It's so special. Especially throughout this week just having the opportunity to think back," Manor said. "This week we kind of called this senior week and a lot of my classmates were just reflecting on our first game against a lot of these teams and then where we are now – going into every game confident."
