Four Cadets Win Weekly Honors

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point track and field team took home four the six Patriot League weekly awards, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Anna Tovkach (women's track athlete of the week) and Georgia Jones (women's rookie of the week) were Army's winners on the women's side. Jamir Gibson (field athlete of the week) and Luke Griner (men's rookie of the week) were the Cadets representatives on the men's side.

Tovkach won the 800 meters at the UConn Spring Invite with an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:07.80, the best in the Patriot League by more than seven seconds and the 22nd-best time in NCAA DI this season. She was part of the Black Knights' second-place 4x400-meter relay squad that posted a time of 3:54.61.

Jones won the 1,500 meters at the UConn Spring Invite with an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:33.64. Her mark is second in the Patriot League this season.

Gibson won the discus throw at the UConn Spring Invite with an IC4A-qualifying distance of 53.78, the best mark in the Patriot League and 37th in NCAA DI this season. The Zion, Ill., native finished second in the shot put with an IC4A-qualifying heave of 17.51 meters, the best mark in the League, ranking 50th in NCAA DI.

Griner placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.50, and was part of the Black Knights' winning 4x400-meter relay team that finished in 3:14.81 at the UConn Spring Invite. His times in the 800 meters and 4x400-meter relay were both IC4A-qualifying marks.
