Baseball Splits Doubleheader vs. UAlbany

WEST POINT, N.Y. – For the first time in 675 days, the Army West Point baseball team played at home at Doubleday Field as they hosted UAlbany for two on Saturday afternoon.
The Black Knights (3-8) fell in the seven-inning game one, 4-1, but came back with a vengeance in a full nine-inning game two, defeating visiting UAlbany, 12-4.
In game one, UAlbany took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but the Black Knights answered right back with a groundout RBI by Tim Simoes. However, UAlbany put up three runs in the fourth inning, with two coming off a two-run home run by Malm and the Black Knights were unable to overcome the deficit in the seven-inning front half of the double header. Ray Bartoli made his first start of the year and went six complete, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
In game two, the bats came alive for the Black Knights, blasting a season-high 12 runs on a season-high 15 hits. The Black Knights went down 3-0 in the first inning, but answered back with two in the bottom half and tied things up in the bottom of the second. From there the Black Knights outscored UAlbany, 9-0 through the final seven frames. Overall, the Black Knights held their opponents to just four runs on six hits.
Seven of the Black Knights' starting nine had at least one hit on the day, with six of them having multi-hit performances.
Starter Patrick Melampy went 3.1 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Trevor Finan, who entered in relief in the fourth inning shut UAlbany down to earn his first win of the season. He went 3.1 innings, allowing no runs on just two hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
Mike Ruggieri and Tyler Prichard each tossed a scoreless inning in relief in the eighth and ninth, respectively.

- Jeremiah Adams and Anthony Giachin each had three hits in game two of the series.
- Freshman Bennett Smith smashed his first career home run, a two-run shot in the first inning of game two. He finished 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and 1 run scored.
- Andre Walden led the Black Knights in game two with three RBI.
- Walden, Kevin Dubrule and Carter Macias each had two hits in game two.
