Baseball Drops Game Three to Austin Peay, 12-7

CARY, N.C. – The Army West Point baseball team fell in game three of its series vs. Austin Peay at the USA Baseball Complex on Sunday afternoon by a score of 12-7.
The Black Knights (2-4) got the offense rolling with a season-high seven runs on 11 hits, but were bested by Austin Peay (1-5) who tallied 12 runs on 12 hits. The Black Knights still won the series, however, as they took games one and two against the Governors.
Austin Peay jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the first two frames, touching up Black Knight starter Rob Buecker, who gave up all five runs on four hits with three walks in 2.0 innings of work.
Overall, the Black Knights used nine different pitchers on the staff day.
The Black Knights' offense started to chip away at the deficit in the third inning, as Anthony Giachin got things started with a two-RBI single and then Jeremiah Adams reached on a fielder's choice, bringing home the third run of the inning to pull within two, 5-3.
In the fourth inning, Kevin Dubrule doubled through the left side to score Simoes, and then the ballgame was tied up at 5-5 as Dubrule showed off the wheels, coming home to score on a wild pitch.
In the fifth inning, the Black Knights took their first lead of the day, as Friedrick doubled to center to plate Adams as the go-ahead run.
The Black Knights extended their lead to two with a sac fly from Carter Macias making it 7-5, Black Knights.
The Governors started their comeback in the eighth inning, however, as Head delivered a two-run home run to tie things back up, 7-7. Then a wild pitch on a third strike to McDonald scored Foreman from third to give the Governors the lead back, 8-7.
They extended that lead as they added four runs on four hits in the top of the ninth to take a 12-7 lead.
The Black Knights fought back in the bottom of the ninth,but couldn't get anything going as they stranded two runners.
