WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Black Knights opened their 2021-22 campaign with an 83-52 victory over SUNY New Paltz on Tuesday night.
GAME SUMMARY
Playing infront of fans for the first time in nearly two years, the Black Knights jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Charlie Peterson opened the scoring with a layup on his way to a career-high scoring night. Peterson also started a run that broke the game wide open for the Black Knights. Leading 18-12 with 12 minutes left in the first half, he made two free throws to start a 17-0 run that stretched for five minutes.
Army made 7 of 11 shots during the run capped by a Josh Caldwell jumper as part of his eight points that he contributed to the run. After taking a 44-24 lead into halftime, the Black Knights maintained their dominance in the second half and led by as much as 32 points.
KNIGHT'S VISION
- Charlie Peterson led all scorers with a career-high 17 points while going 6-for-6 from the field. He tied a career-high in rebounds with a team-high eight.
- Josh Caldwell scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out a game-high five assists and snagged two steals in 26 minutes.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Army has won its season opener in consecutive seasons for the first time since the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
- Army improved to 2-0 all-time versus New Paltz.
- All 18 players saw action.
