WEST POINT, N.Y. – Josh Caldwell scored a game-high 19 points as the Army Black Knights fell to regional rival the Siena Saints, 83-67, on Tuesday night.
GAME SUMMARY
Army and Siena renewed acquaintances after 31 years and the game was a tale of two halves dictated by two extended runs. The Black Knights were the beneficiary of a significant run in the first half, but the Saints turned the game in their favor with a run in the second frame en route to the victory.
In the first half, Army surged ahead behind a 19-3 run in seven minutes. The catalyst to the run was the defense which forced five turnovers during the run. Trailing 10-4, the Black Knights scored 14 straight points for an 18-10 lead. A layup by Charlie Peterson gave Army a 23-13 lead with eight minutes remaining in the first half. Siena trimmed the deficit to 28-24 heading the final three minutes of the half, but the Black Knights took a 33-28 lead into halftime.
Aaron Duhart connected on a triple for a 36-30 lead before Siena regained the lead by going on a 12-5 run. A 3-pointer by Chris Mann put Army back in front at 44-42 with 13:34 remaining. However, the Saints followed with a 23-2 run over the next seven minutes to seize control of the contest.
The Black Knights scored nine straight to cut the lead to 65-55 with four minutes left, though it was the closest they would get.
