Black Knights Down Falcons for Silver Star

WEST POINT, N.Y. --- Army West Point women's basketball sang second and claimed the Silver Star after defeating Air Force 73-62, with four Cadets scoring double-digit points, on Wednesday afternoon at Christl Arena.
Trinity Hardy led the way for the Black Knights with 18 points, three assists, and three steals. Alisa Fallon followed with 16 points making 5-of-7 shots from the floor, while snatching five rebounds and dishing out two assists. Sabria Hunter and Kate Murray played big roles on the boards ripping down seven rebounds each while scoring 10 and 14 points, respectfully. Lindsey Scamman led the charge in the rebound battle as she recorded a season-high of 10.
How It Happened
The teams were evenly matched from the start, each scoring on possession to keep it tied at 7-7. Taylor Sullivan drew a foul that sent her to the line, igniting a 6-0 scoring run for Army to lead 13-7. The Black Knights held Air Force scoreless for the last two minutes of the first quarter going on another 6-0 scoring run to lead 19-9 at the end of the period. Fallon was leading the attack for Army with seven points while Hardy and Lauren Lithgow each had four. The Black Knights were about to force eight turnovers scoring nine points off Air Force's turnovers.
Air Force fought back in the second quarter, shooting 50 percent from the floor and beyond the arc to cut Army's lead to 27-23. Lithgow found a path to the rim to take the lead back for Army (31-30), but it wasn't enough as Air Force got the final shot off to lead 32-31 going into the half.
It was a back-and-forth battle in the third quarter, the teams were tied four times during the ten-minute period. Hardy hit a jumper late in the quarter to give Army momentum. Hope Brown came off the bench for the Black Knights to hit a trey with the assist from Fallon to make the score 49-44 in Army's favor. Army finished the quarter with a three-point lead (50-47) shooting 58 percent from the floor. Hardy led with seven points and two steals.
Army opened the fourth quarter with a 6-0 scoring run, closing the door on Air Force. Murray played a big role in shutting down the Falcons' second chance opportunities snatching four defense rebounds. Army was able to keep the Falcons at arm's distance winning the game 73-62.
