Smith, Bradley Collect Patriot League Accolades

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following the Army West Point women's soccer team's 2-1 defeat of Bucknell, both Lindsey Smith and Kaelan Bradley received weekly awards from the Patriot League. Smith was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week, while Bradley was named Rookie of the Week.
Smith played a key role in the team's victory over the Bison, providing an immediate spark off the bench. Her first career goal, scored in the 72nd minute of play, helped lift the Cadets past Bucknell. The shot was taken from about 30 yards out and tied the score up at 1-1. In addition to her offensive efforts, Smith helped to anchor a back line that held the Bison to just one goal, despite the team averaging nearly two per conference outing.
"What an incredible finish by Lindsey," head coach Tracy Chao said. "She saw a moment and stepped up with a calmness and assertiveness to tie up the match. And, she certainly played a part of how tremendous our backline was in our defensive efforts and transition to hold a solid Bucknell off for any other opportunities."
Bradley's recognition comes after scoring the game-winning goal during last Friday's contest. The freshman got her head on her second career goal, knocking in a ball from Trinity Garay in the 88th minute to push Army to its final 2-1 margin of victory. Bradley has six points on the season, the fourth-most of any Black Knight and the most of the team's rookies.
"KB's movement to read the service and pop off the defender to score was just a glimpse of her soccer I," Chao said. "She's been in that position before scoring a game-winning header for a player that's most certainly not the tallest but has great tactical awareness and vision. With Lauren [Drysdale] turning the defender and Trinity getting endline, KB recognized that she was the run in the box to get on the end and what a great sequence of movements and individual efforts to create a big time moment for the team."
The honors are the first of Bradley and Smith's respective careers, though the women's soccer team was highlighted by the conference earlier this season when Dara Murray and Jasmine Talley collected weekly honors after the Black Knights' defeat of William & Mary.
