WEST POINT, N.Y. - In the annual service academy clash between Army West Point sprint football and Navy, the Black Knights came up just short of the victory, falling to the Mids, 14-6.

JC Watson threw for 198 yards and connected with Kraig Hamilton five times for 72 yards, but it was not enough to take the star, as Army fell to 2-1 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The 2021 service academy clash followed the same trend as past matchups, as both squads battled and made it tough for the opposing offenses to make any progress up the field. Eight of the first nine drives ended in punts

Navy broke onto the scoreboard first with a second quarter touchdown. Army would answer with a 13-play, 52-yard drive that resulted in a Ben Abercrombie field goal to get Army on the board. The 7-3 score would carry as the teams went into the locker room at halftime.

The Army defense stepped up in the second half, intercepting the Navy quarterback twice to put the Black Knights in scoring position. Caleb Self had the first pick while Samuel Whipple would record the other for the Cadets.

The Black Knights would put three more points on the board courtesy of Ben Abercrombie, but it was not enough to overcome Navy, who would go on to secure the 14-6 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

JC Watson recorded 198 passing yards, connecting with Kraig Hamilton for 72 of those yards.
Ryan Connors led the Army ground attack, rushing for 26 yards in the contest.
Trey Whipple had an excellent game in the defensive backfield, recording an interception while breaking up three passes.
David Dickerson and Luke Gigliotti combined for 28 tackles (14 a piece) to lead all defenders. Gigliotti led the squad with eight solo stops.

Army will rest and recover as they enter their bye week before returning to play at Shea Stadium October 22 when the Black Knights are set to take on St. Thomas Aquinas.
