Sprint Football Comes Away With 19-11 Win At Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Fresh off a bye week, the Army West Point sprint football team stood tall in it's CSFL battle against Mansfield, defeating the Mountaineers, 19-11.
JC Watson threw for 168 yards and Jeremiah Garrett rushed for 85 yards as the Black Knights outgained the Mountaineers by over 130 yards, 333-198. Touchdowns from Donovan Mannion, Ryan Connors and Landry Songer were enough to propel the Black Knights to the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Black Knights bounced back in a big way on Saturday, putting together an impressive performance against a tough Mansfield team that entered the contest with a 3-1 record.
The Mountaineers gave Army a fight right from the start of the action, forcing the Black Knights to punt on its first two possessions of the game. The Army defense responded by forcing a three and out and two other punts in the first quarter. The defenses shined bright in the first 15 minutes, as the score stayed at 0-0 going into the second quarter.
The Black Knights broke onto the scoreboard early in the second quarter when Connors punched in a one-yard touchdown rush to put Army up 6-0. The score would remain 6-0 going into the half after a missed FG attempt by Army.
After punting on its opening possession, Army put together a masterful 8-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in a 33-yard touchdown pass from JC Watson to Donovan Mannion.
Mansfield answered early in the fourth quarter with a touchdown of their own to bring the score to 12-8. Army would fight back two possessions later, scoring its final touchdown of the game, courtesy of Landry Songer, to go up 19-8. Mansfield would add three more points but it was not enough to overcome Army, who moved to 3-1 with the result.

The Cadets will return to West Point for their final home matchup Friday night when it takes on St. Thomas Aquinas College at Shea Stadium. The matchup is slated to begin at 7 pm.
