Army Falls to Colgate in Patriot League Men's Basketball Opener
January 02, 2021 | Men's Basketball
HAMILTON, N.Y – The Army West Point men's basketball team tipped off Patriot League play with a 101-57 loss to Colgate on Saturday.
"I give Colgate a lot of credit," Head Coach Jimmy Allen said. "They didn't get a chance to play in the fall semester and they looked like a bunch of guys who were starving to play, and we did not respond."
The Raiders were impressive from the field throughout the contest, shooting 65% as a team in the game. That advantage extended to the boards as well, with Colgate winning the rebounding battle 44-23.
It marks the first time this season that Army (4-2, 0-1 PL) was held without a double-digit scorer, as the team had three different players achieve that feat in each of the past four contests. Senior Lonnie Grayson led the team with nine points and three rebounds on the day.
"It was a day where we struggled to share the ball and a day where we didn't stick to our principles on defense," Allen said. "We knew they were a very good basketball team. Tomorrow we are going to have to pick the energy up to compete at the level we need to if we are going to beat a team like Colgate."
Army will get a chance to shake off the loss when the two sides meet again on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Hamilton.
